lyrics

She wanted to be a poet, she wanted to pursue her passion
Maybe an English teacher or writer, she’d make it happen
She’d dated creative people and a few were into rapping
But with her parents restrictive, none of that was ever lasting
Both conservative oriental, they saw in her more potential
To take the promising legal route, her test scores essential
Essential to succeed in the life they’d already planned for her
Anything else, they felt, they’d closed the damn door
More and more resent filled her battered soul
She started hanging out with sketchy kids in tattered clothes
Who felt the same they felt resent and had it grow
So they escaped their fate by falling down the rabbit hole, yeah
and she knew she wasn’t doing right
Fall in with the wrong crowd and you’ll start losing life
But she couldn’t the point and discontinued caring
She’d rather enjoy life now than dance like a puppet for her parents

It’s my dream you can’t take it away
No matter what I will break these chains
It’s my fate I don’t care what they say
So I’ll start to plan my Great Escape

Never stop dreaming, never stop writing
Never give up, never ever stop fighting
We all have stories, we walk different paths
Some of us are doctors, some are skipping class
Most of us are poor, some are getting cash
Some of us are martyrs, most will never last
I’m feeling trapped so this must be the Great Escape

One morning she woke up in the dirt in the mist and rain
She could see her breath in the cold; she tried to sit and strain
Barely clothed but covered in scars she knew something was odd
She could carry on even with the pain
She didn’t know the Ledge until the Ledge gave in
The light of her future to her front, the ghosts of her past adjacent
Both paths had obstacles, the right one had more
The left path had patience, but the right one had more
Both her options had mirrors, both stored pain inside
And as she struggled to see them clearer, the winds came alive
The Thunder bellowed and its echoes made Angels cry
Screaming; “You must move forward, this ain’t your day to die!”
So she picked herself up, lifted herself up
Nozomi gazed into the mirror and she saw her hazel eyes
She began to cry, she was crying tears of joy
She was silent no more, the world would finally hear her voice

It’s my dream you can’t take it away
No matter what I will break these chains
It’s my fate I don’t care what they say
So I’ll start to plan my Great Escape

Never stop dreaming, never stop writing
Never give up, never ever stop fighting
We all have stories, we walk different paths
Some of us are doctors, some are skipping class
Most of us are poor, some are getting cash
Some of us are martyrs, most will never last
I’m feeling trapped so this must be the Great Escape
